Reading the Limited Release Bottling Numbers: The first letters, “FH” represent “ “Flaming Heart”, the “16” tells you the age of the oldest whisky in the batch, and the “MMVI” stands for Roman numerals indicating this batch was bottled in 2006.
Flavour Descriptors: Peat and smoke, wrapped up in rich, spice and dried fruit-laden maltiness.
Recommendations: When you’re ready for a full-on mouthful of malt.
Distillery Sourcing: Single malts from the villages of Port Askaig (Islay) for the smoke & peat, and Brora and Longmorn for the richness and spice-fruit complexity. Aged up to 16 years.
Wood: Islay whisky from refill American oak hogsheads, other malts from new French oak.
Bottling Details: Bottled at 48.9% Abv. Natural Colour. Not Chill Filtered. Bottled just over 350 six-pack cases in 70cl bottles.
John’s Notes: “Flaming Heart” is one of the first whiskies we’ve bottled in our “Limited Release” Range. It’s a six cask malt whisky batch in which four of the casks come from our new French oak maturation program. We’ve found that these casks complement in an extraordinary and dramatic way casks of heavily peated Islay malt whisky!
In “Flaming Heart” you’ll find an amalgam: You’ll detect the peatiness of our favourite Islay malt whisky distillery…

…And you’ll pick up malty and fruity notes of one or two of our favourite Highland malt distilleries.…And you’ll definitely pick up aromas that remind you of clove and cardamom and cinnamon alongside dried fruit character and stone fruit character… You’ll experience a big, full palate of flavour, it will be rich on the palate, a touch sweet on the palate, but balanced…. And very long. And best of all, after your first taste, you will be called immediately back to the glass for another. Which is so amazing, given it’s bottled at 48.9%!
We’ve bottled just over 350 six-pack cases of “Flaming Heart” in 70cl bottles, which means it will only be available in the parts of Europe, Asia and Australia where we have importers. We don’t know if we’ll be able to make this again due to the special nature of the some of these casks, so please enjoy it while it lasts!

Soll einem das Herz brennen, weil dieser Whisky vielleicht der erste mit Chili ist? Den Compass Leuten ist ja alles zuzutrauen… ;-) Oder geht es vielleicht doch mehr in diese Richtung:

Da trag ich ein flammendes Herz mir zum Schild,
Ein Schwerdt ist mein einsamer Wille,
Da steig ich, als stieß ich die Erde in Grund,
Da sing ich mich recht von Herzen gesund
So wohl ist mir nimmer geworden.

Die Nase ist die eines Riesenwhiskys, voller Frucht, Holz, Malz und deutliche Torfspuren, so daß einem fast die Tränen kommen und das Herz Feuer fängt.
Der Geschmack ist dann komplexer, kann allerdings von der Intensität an den ersten Eindruck nicht heranreichen, sonst würde diese Flasche sicher mindestens einen dreistelligen Eurobetrag kosten – und auch wert sein.
Es kommt noch mehr Frucht, viele Holznuancen und wirklich passende Raucharomen runden das Bild so ab, daß der richtige Name für diese Abfüllung eigentlich „Complete Heart“ hätte lauten müssen. Entsprechend sieht das Geschmackschema aus. Hier hat jemand auf der Klaviatur eines Blended Malts wirkliche Harmonie erzeugt.
Der Nachklang ist angemessen in Länge und Intensität.
